The Serpent On The Pole: The Story of our Great Redemption- #20

serpent-on-a-pole.jpg

Everybody in the Church at large has heard of John 3:16:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.(John 3:16 NKJV)

Have you heard this next verse before?

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up. (John 3:14 NKJV)

That was John 3:14, a rarely quoted verse in the same teaching of Jesus to Nicodemus. Yes, that is only two verses before John 3:16, yet it is seldom used or quoted.

Mostly, in Holy Spirit-baptized (tongues- talking), healing-believing circles, this verse is used to refer to divine healing. The connection to healing should be obvious, but there is much more.

Notice the emphasis of Jesus on using the serpent on a pole as referring to His death on the cross. Why would He use the serpent as a symbol of His sacrifice, and not refer to Himself as the spotless Lamb of God on the cross? No question that He was the spotless Lamb of God offered up for us as a sacrifice (1 Peter 1:19), but then something evil and sinister happened to Jesus on the cross that merited identification with the serpent. We study this powerful truth as it relates to His sacrifice for us.

Be mightily blessed!

Obviously, the Lord taught me a few more things from His Word. That is the most complete version I have published. Jesus went to Hades in our Place: The Story of our Great Redemption #19

19-Jesus_went_to_Hades_in_our_place.jpg

We have proven beyond any doubt that Jesus went to Hades for us so that the one that trusts in His sacrifice never has to go! What a glorious provision! This selfless act of gracious love was the innocent Jesus taking the place of guilty humanity, so that the guilty can receive a place with Him as the innocent. Though this central provision of grace is not automatic, it is available to everybody that will receive it!

This is the way God so loved the world. He gave His one and only Son as a sacrifice for all. Why? Everyone who believes on Him (trusts and obeys Him) will not perish, that is, be separated from God in Hades and later thrown into the lake of fire for all eternity. What is His mighty provision for all who would trust and obey the Lord by receiving and living in His sacrifice? They would have eternal life, that is, a place in eternity with the Lord forever. That is the message of John 3:13-18! (See NET, MSG, AMP, CJB, OJB versions and others.)

Today, we continue to be in wonder at this facet etched upon the brilliant diamond of our salvation. We review some things (important in a subject like this), and then add some more scripture references to help you get the message clearly. Be mightily blessed with this anointed and enlightening series!

The Torment of Hades According to Jesus: The Story of Our Great Redemption #18

The_Torment_of_Hades_According_to_Jesus-_The_Story_of_Our_Great_Redemption_18.jpg

God raised Jesus up, after He spent three days and nights in the heart of the earth! (Matthew 12:40) The heart of the earth was Hades or the hell of fire and torment in the story Jesus taught about the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:23, 24). Jesus’ soul was not left in Hades but He was raised up from the realm of the dead, and then He was raised physically from the dead (Acts 2:24, 27, 31). This is what we have been studying in these podcasts.

Was Joseph of Arimathea the rich man mentioned in Isaiah 53? We have assumed that.  The rich man of Isaiah 53:9 couldn’t have been Joseph because he was a righteous rich man (Luke 23:50). He was a disciple of Jesus (Matthew 27:57-60). The rich man Jesus made his grave with was a wicked rich man. They were two very different people. Who was that wicked rich man that Jesus made His grave with? Tune in right now.

If you have not heard about these truths before, it is important you listen to the series in sequence to get the most out of it. You will avoid misunderstanding and not fall into the trap of taking things out of context. Don’t miss these powerful podcasts.
